Artist’s Statement:

Plein Air painting has always been my first love and capturing the rapidly changing environment is an invigorating challenge. I favor direct paintings with a loosely done quality and an emphasis on emotional color. Pastel is my preferred medium, especially over a water-based under painting. Fluid brush strokes followed by a bold application of opaque color allows me the most freedom of expression.

My painting themes include the changing seasons; spring blossoms and mustard fields, hazy summer lavender, the rich hues of fall leaves and the deep tones of winter. I was fortunate to recently spend two years living in Hawaii where I could paint full time. The luminous landscape there enthralled me! I developed a new palette of colors to express the beauty of the tropical islands. My lifetime goal is to develop the tools to describe something fully with both imagery and language, and to share with others the beauty that moves me.
