The following is an interview I gave to a national magazine that asked for beauty advice about saving money during a recession. We’ll see if they use it!

SAVE BIG BY GOING WITH YOUR NATURAL HAIR COLOR

You’ve admired the women that look beautiful and confident with their natural grey hair; perhaps you’ve thought about it for yourself but you’re not sure the look is right for you. Now may be just the time to revisit your natural hair color, says image consultant and author of the new book Growing More Beautiful: An Artful Approach To Personal Style. “If you’re tired of salon color processing taking so much time and money,” says Robin, “give it a try. Consider experimenting with your natural hair color as an adventure, an opportunity to look even better.” However, going grey does not mean letting yourself go, she cautions. “The cut needs to be up-to-date and modern. Colors that flatter your new hair color are important so consider investing in a professional make-up lesson or color analysis. Even with a one-time consultation you’ll still save BIG compared to a year of salon color processing.”

“Going grey and gorgeous is just one hair color option. Many women are discovering that when they go back to their natural color their hair looks healthy and shiny. Your stylist can advise you how to grow out your hair color in a flattering way so you don’t end up with the dreaded ‘grow out stripe.’ If you want to continue with salon color, there are lots of short-cuts colorists can take that will cost less over a year’s time, so be sure to ask about them. Don’t let go of your salon color if it is something you really love. Find another way to cut back.”

“Women stop me all the time to ask about my hair,” continues Robin. “I know many women would love to give it a try, but they are nervous about it. I have fun with my hair, I think of it as luminous and shimmery instead of dull. If you are curious about it, let the need to spend less be the motivation to try something new!”
